# Track an elevator's certificate

> How to monitor certificate expiration dates and inspection pass/fail by unit.

Tracking a certificate means keeping an eye on a single unit's inspection result and certificate expiration so you can act before it lapses. Use this article to find a unit and read its certificate status.

<Note>
  Compliance is available to the **consultant** role.
</Note>

## Find the unit

Open **Compliance** from the main navigation and locate the unit in the table. You can sort by **Certificate Expiration** to bring the soonest-expiring certificates to the top, or [filter the table](/compliance/filter-compliance) to narrow to a property, service provider, or certificate status.

## Read certificate status in the table

For each unit, the table shows:

* **Inspection Status** — a **Passed** chip (green) or **Expired** chip (red) from the latest inspection. A dash (`-`) means no status is on file yet.
* **Certificate Expiration** — the date the current certificate expires.
* **Last CAT1 Test** and **Last CAT5 Test** — the dates of the unit's most recent category-1 and category-5 tests.

## Open the unit for full detail

Select the unit's name to open its compliance panel. The panel header shows the property, portfolio, and license number, and the panel body shows:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Certificate">
    A **Download** link to the certificate document, or **Upload Certificate** if none is on file. See [Upload a certificate](/compliance/upload-a-certificate).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Certificate Expiration Date">
    The full expiration date, for example "March 1, 2026."
  </Step>

  <Step title="Inspection Status">
    The current inspection result as a chip.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Jurisdiction">
    The authority governing the unit, or "N/A" if none is recorded.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Last CAT-1 and Last CAT-5">
    The dates of the most recent category-1 and category-5 tests.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  When a certificate is expiring or already expired, upload the renewed certificate from the same panel so the unit's status updates. See [Upload a certificate](/compliance/upload-a-certificate).
