# Connect ChatGPT to LiftAI

> How to add LiftAI to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server so you can ask ChatGPT about your portfolios, tickets, invoices, and compliance, what it can read, and how to disconnect it.

You can add LiftAI to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, then ask ChatGPT about your portfolios, tickets, invoices, elevators, compliance, and vendors. ChatGPT looks up your data with the same read-only LiftAI tools that [Claude](https://help.liftai.com/assistant/connect-claude.md) uses, and it sees only what you can already see in LiftAI.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Connecting ChatGPT is a **consultant** feature, and it's rolled out gradually. If LiftAI tells you the connector is disabled for your account, it isn't turned on for you yet. It's also off whenever the Lift AI Assistant is off for you. See [Get help](https://help.liftai.com/getting-started/get-help.md).

## Before you start

You sign in to the connection with your LiftAI **email and password**. If you usually sign in with an emailed link and have never set a password, [set a password](https://help.liftai.com/account/update-your-profile.md#set-a-password) first.

Which ChatGPT plans and workspace roles can add a custom MCP server is up to OpenAI. Per OpenAI's help article [Connecting custom MCP servers in ChatGPT](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12584461), custom MCP servers are added from **Plugins** in ChatGPT on the web, and in a Business workspace only admins and owners can add one. In an Enterprise or Edu workspace, admins can also give that permission to other members. If you can't add a server yourself, ask your workspace admin. If an admin has already added LiftAI for your workspace, ask them how you connect. If your ChatGPT has no **Plugins** option, see [Connect through the Apps settings](#connect-through-the-apps-settings).

## Connect ChatGPT

The steps below follow OpenAI's help article. ChatGPT's menus change from time to time, so if a label doesn't match what you see, check the article.

**1. Add LiftAI as a custom MCP server**

In ChatGPT on the web, go to **Plugins**, select the plus button, then select **Add custom MCP server**. Name it **LiftAI**, and under **Connection** enter this URL:

```text theme={null}
https://mcp.liftai.com/mcp
```

**2. Set up sign-in and create the plugin**

For authentication, choose **OAuth**. LiftAI doesn't give you a client ID or secret, so leave those fields blank. Review the risk warning, select **I understand and want to continue**, then select **Create as a plugin**.

ChatGPT then opens a LiftAI page in your browser so you can sign in. OpenAI's help article places this during the tool scan; it may instead come the first time you use a LiftAI tool.

**3. Sign in to LiftAI**

On the **Sign in to Lift AI** page, enter your LiftAI email and password, then select **Sign in**.

**4. Review what you're allowing**

The next page names the application asking to connect and lists what it will be able to do, whose data it can read, what it can't do, and how to turn it off later. It also shows the address LiftAI sends the connection to.

ChatGPT registers itself when you add the server, so LiftAI can't confirm who runs it and marks it as an **Unverified application**. That's expected here. Continue only if you started the connection from ChatGPT yourself and the address shown is **chatgpt.com**.

**5. Allow the connection**

Select **Allow** to connect, or **Cancel** to stop without connecting anything. Once you allow it, go back to ChatGPT. If you haven't installed the plugin yet, review the LiftAI tools it found and install it. Then start a new conversation, type **@**, select **LiftAI**, and ask your question.

### Connect through the Apps settings

If your ChatGPT has no **Plugins** option, OpenAI's help article also describes an older flow that creates a custom app from the **Apps** settings with developer mode. In outline:

**1. Turn on developer mode**

Per OpenAI's help article, developer mode is under **Settings** > **Apps** > **Advanced settings**. Turn it on there. In a workspace, an admin may have to turn it on for you.

**2. Create the app**

Go to **Apps** > **Create**. Name it **LiftAI**, enter `https://mcp.liftai.com/mcp` as the MCP server URL, and choose **OAuth**, leaving the client ID and secret blank. Then select **Scan Tools**.

**3. Sign in and allow**

ChatGPT opens the LiftAI sign-in page. Sign in, review the next page, and select **Allow**, as in the sign-in, review, and allow steps above.

**4. Finish creating the app**

Back in ChatGPT, wait for the tool scan to finish, then select **Create**. Start a new conversation, choose **LiftAI** from the tools in the message box, and ask your question.

## What ChatGPT can do

ChatGPT can look things up in LiftAI and read them. It can:

* Find your portfolios, properties, and vendors by name.
* List and read invoices, service tickets, and elevator units.
* Read portfolio performance: callback and emergency callback rates, maintenance completion, on-time response, a monthly trend, figures by property and by vendor, and spend by category.
* Show maintenance coverage for a property or elevator: which maintenance periods are done, partial, skipped, have no record, or are still open, with the visits behind each one.
* Summarize callbacks and entrapments per elevator, with each elevator's annual rate and the allowances in its contract.
* List certificates that expire soon and violations that are still open, most urgent first.
* Look up and read articles in the LiftAI help center.

## What ChatGPT can't do

The connection is read-only. ChatGPT can't create, change, or delete anything in LiftAI, including invoices, tickets, documents, and settings, and it can't upload documents. To act on something ChatGPT finds, open it in LiftAI.

## Whose data ChatGPT can read

ChatGPT reads the same records you see when you sign in to LiftAI: properties, tickets, invoices, and compliance records in the customer accounts you belong to.

Elevator units reach a little further, as they do in LiftAI itself. ChatGPT can also read units on properties your consultancy manages, or on a billing account you belong to, even when the property is in a customer account you aren't a member of.

> [!NOTE]
>
> ChatGPT's answers are generated and can be incomplete or wrong. For decisions that matter, check the record in LiftAI.

## Disconnect ChatGPT

* **In ChatGPT:** remove the LiftAI plugin or app in ChatGPT. ChatGPT stops calling LiftAI.
* **At LiftAI:** to revoke the access on LiftAI's side as well, email [support@liftai.com](mailto:support@liftai.com) and say which application to disconnect.
* **Change or reset your password:** this disconnects ChatGPT, along with every other connection on your account. You can reconnect afterwards with your new password.

If your LiftAI account is deactivated, its connections end too. A connection you don't use for 14 days stops working on its own; connect again to keep using it.
